Government has recently passed the Restitution of Land Rights Amendment Act which re-opens the window for restitution claims to allow people to put in claims until 2018.It also explicitly allows people dispossessed under Betterment to put in restitution claims. A new policy proposal on strengthening the Relative Rights of People Working the Land, suggests that 50% of ownership of farms should be transferred to farm workers. Both these measures however face extensive criticism from rural development activists and practitioners.
