Among the various Strategic Integrated Projects (SIP's) of the National Infrastructure Plan, SIP 15 has an objective of improving access to communication technology through providing 100% broadband coverage to all households and also drive investment for township and rural access as well as for e-government, school and health connectivity.

ECSECC has been assigned by the Office of the Premier a responsibility to facilitate the realization of the Eastern Cape socio economic vision through the effective implementation of the Presidential Infrastructure Co-ordination Commission (PICC) initiatives in our province as outlined in National Infrastructure Plan.  The Commission is chaired by the President and has the mandate of co-ordinating and prioritizing strategic infrastructure projects for implementation by Government and State Owned Entities.  Among the various Strategic Integrated Projects (SIP’s) of the National Infrastructure Plan, SIP 15 has an objective of improving access to communication technology through providing 100 % broadband coverage to all households and also drive investment for township and rural access as well as for e-government, school and health connectivity.

Through this project ECSECC seeks to bring together all relevant stakeholders and facilitate collaboration for the improvement of broadband connectivity in the Eastern Cape. This is done in order to ensure the following provincial priorities:
  • Broadband core Points of Presence (POPs) are established in district municipalities;
  • New fibre networks extend across the province;
  • POPs and fibre connectivity is established at local level and further penetrating the network into deep rural areas

ECSECC works closely with the Eastern Cape ICT Working Group and the Office of the Premier.
