Allan Gray Makers Entrepreneurship Inter-College Competition
The Eastern Cape segment of the competition, now in its third year, was held at King Hintsa TVET College in Idutywa on Friday, 23 August 2024. The aim of the Inter-College competition is to foster a culture of entrepreneurship among TVETC students.
The initiative is a partnership between Allan and Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa, Department of Higher Education and Training, and ECSECC.
ECHRD Council meets with student leaders to address educational funding challenges
The Eastern Cape Human Resource Development Council on Thursday, 22 August 2024 held a meeting with student leaders representing various institutions of higher learning.
The purpose of the gathering was to engage in a comprehensive discussion about the significant challenges and obstacles that students face in securing funding for their education.
The meeting aimed to identify and understand these barriers in order to develop strategies and solutions that could improve access to financial support for students.
Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy Thought Leadership Dialogue
South Africa launched its 30 Years of Freedom and Democracy commemoration on 9 April 2024 under the theme: "30 Years of Democracy, Partnership and Growth.”
The Eastern Cape Human Resource Development Council (EC-HRDC) on Friday, 12 April 2024 hosted an Artisan Development Seminar to pilot a two-way approach of developing artisans and empowering them with entrepreneurial skills.
The theme of the seminar was: “Artisan 4.0: A Futurist Approach to Training Artisans with Entrepreneurial Astuteness” and was attended by stakeholders critical to artisan development from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), TVET colleges, business, and provincial government.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Indaba 2024
The second instalment of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Indaba was held in East London on Wednesday 27 March 2024. The initiative is a joint partnership between the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) and the Eastern Cape Human Resource Development Council (EC HRD Council) for stakeholders in the ecosystem to collectively work together to improve intake and performance of STEM subjects in the province.
The Eastern Cape province demonstrated commendable improvement, achieving an 81.4% pass rate. This progress underscores the resilience of students and the effectiveness of educational interventions, contributing to the overall positive trend observed nationally.
This featured event is dedicated to the late Dr Soyisile Nuku who was the Acting HOD of the Eastern Cape Department of Education.
