Impact of COVID-19 on the labour market and businesses in the Eastern Cape Download

In response to the spread of COVID-19 and the resulting pandemic, government to implemented lockdown measures that have forced most businesses to suspend in-person operations. The resulting economic crisis has severely disrupted business and labour market. To better understand the scope and impact of the crisis on the labour market and businesses in the Eastern Cape, this policy paper utilized the Business Impact Survey and Quarterly Labour Force Survey data from the Statistics South Africa. The paper finds that both businesses and labour market have been severely affected.
