Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council

Premier Mabuyane commends ECSECC for the achievements of the past 30 years

Published: April 08, 2025

Tabling a budget amounting to R1.51 billion for the 2025/26 financial year for the Office of the Premier this morning, Premier Oscar Mabuyane lauded the Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council for the strides that the province has made to build a better life for all in the Eastern Cape, since the dawn of democracy.

"The achievements of the Eastern Cape in the 31 years of Freedom and Democracy would not have been possible without the work that has been done by ECSECC. I wish to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to all the former Premiers of our province who established, natured and protected ECSECC to be the repository of research based planning and social compacting institution that it is today. A word of appreciation also goes to CEOs of ECSECC past and present, including employees who have invested their energies and talents to the work of ECSECC in the past 30 years.”
Reacting to the Premier’s comments, ECSECC CEO, Mr Luvuyo Mosana said: "It is heartening to hear such acknowledgement from the head of the provincial government. It means the employees of ECSECC past and present have really contributed meaningfully to the development of our province. We are not done yet; hence our theme for the next five years is "Fetching the Future”.
In July this year, ECSECC will be celebrating its 30th anniversary and Premier Mabuyane said the provincial government has high expectations for ECSECC going into the future. He said the provincial administration worked tirelessly to ensure that ECSECC Act number 5 of 2024 is promulgated. The Act also reaffirms the status of ECSECC as a constituency based social compact organisation for multi-sectoral consultations.

Premier Mabuyane said in the next five years: "The OTP and ECSECC ensemble will be championing innovation and strategic foresight to address the Eastern Cape’s long-term challenges, whilst also providing evidence-based solutions. Already we have earmarked areas for these interface that include infrastructure and investment promotion, provincial integrated budgeting and planning, evaluations, municipal support, oceans economy, and the Eastern Seaboard Development programme.”

Premier Mabuyane committed that the R1.51-billion budget would be used prudently to effect maximum impact in the lives of Eastern Cape citizens.
